Whoever
fails to know himself and his fellow-man,
lacks everything !
Psychotherapy could be seen as the practical executive part of psychology. In essence, a psychotherapist or psychologist is a person, who helps another human being, to clarify his world of thought and emotion. Mental coach, counsellor, someone who gives insight, comforter, mental guide and occasionally: war comrade, are definitely terms you can attach to this function.
But there are many therapeutic directions, as for that it looks a little like the diversity of streams within the religious world. To mention a few psychotherapeutic schools: the psychoanalytic (among which the classical psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud), the behavioristic (among which the behavior therapy), the cognitive (among which the cognitiv therapy of Aaron Beck), the humanistic (among which the client-centered therapy of Carl Rogers), the rational- emotive therapie (RET of Albert Ellis), etc. Within the various streams there are again many therapeutic forms and variations to be distinguished.
Many therapists work from one specific school. Yet there are a great
number, who work eclectic. In other words, now they work from
this school, then they work from another, depending on the client or the
problems. Or they work integratively, that means that they have joined together the good
aspects of several schools and use them in their therapy sessions.
We belong
anyway to the latter group, but in addition we have added the necessary
extra elements. These extra elements you can find again, for a part, in
the subjects, to which are referred in our index. But the other part you
won't find again (yet), for we are still founding our vision. Although we do use
it in our form of therapy and most
people experience this vision to be very illuminating and insight-providing. A quotation
of a thirty year old ex-client for that matter: It's a pity you dont
learn this sort of psychological insight at schools of secondary and higher
education, it would save people a huge amount of pain and suffering .
As you will understand, what we consider as good and/or scientific, can be experienced by someone else as nonsense or pure fabrications. In view of this site, that reflects our way of thinking and course of action, you can determine for yourself if you find this and that logical and appliable to your perception of environment. And if you dont find it logical, you will have to continuing searching.
If it appeals to you and you want more information, or you or someone close to you needs therapeutic help, you can contact us at the telephone number and e-mail address, which you can find at the bottom of this page.
Psychology stands for knowledge of the human mind and the human action. Explaining human psyche and behaviour seems not so difficult. Anybody who puts in a little effort can find thousands of answers in the various libraries. But that is exactly the problem. Like a professor (prof.dr P. Vroon ) once wrote: "The discipline psychology looks like an exploded confetti factory". And professor J. van Essen wrote in 1965, that the whole has become "indescribably extensive". The science psychology has therefore been shattered into thousands of pieces, and now try as a layman to make it one whole again, if even the experts cannot do it and/or are contradicting eachother.
Now many people
think, that the science psychology is a new science. As for the universities,
it naturally is a fairly new discipline. But anyone who delves a bit, discovers
that it is probably the most ancient mental occupation that fascinated mankind. Questions like: Where do I come from ? Where do I go to ? and What am I doing here ? were and are directly followed
by questions like: Why am I the way I am ? And why are other people the
way they are ?
The most important matters, in the area of the human psyche
and his actions, are therefore already known for thousands and thousands of years!
Through the centuries a lot of these facts have been fallen into the background
however, due to various
causes and only the past hundred years they have been rediscovered.
That the most important psychological findings of the last century have
been announced with loud scientific drumroll as: newly discovered, says something about
the extent to which our culture has gone astray and about the memory of humans. Like Vroon
already wrote once: Our
biggest problem is, that we barely have a memory. In
connoisseurs, who do have a fairly good memory in this
area, all this drumoll merely evokes a gentle smile, for they know that these
new psychological discoveries (theories and/or facts) have
been known for a long time and they can prove this. At the most modern physics
or medical science confirm something, that theoretically was known for a
long time. Like, for example, the fact, that a depression disturbs the chemical
balance in your brain, but when the depression is canceled out, everything
functions normally again. They already knew this a few thousand years back ! The
fact that it is now confirmed scientifically, is interesting, but theoretically
this was known for a long time ! Changes
of behaviour and more important, a change of culture,
are consequently the challenges which both the social sciences and the society
are facing. That calls for new frames of reference and if possible, frames of
reference, which can be founded scientifically. A great
part of these psychological frames are already known and summarily
you find our interpretation in the subjects that are treated in this site (see
index). These
psychological frames/ truths have therefore not been discovered by us, at the most they
are mixed and joined together by us.
In any case it gives answers, which most people find logical and rational and
which are of use to them.
Pedantic ? Read the other subjects and judge for
yourself.

Still many people have questions and disturbing 'open pieces', to which the
mainstream psychology does not have an sufficient answer (yet). Or it gives
answers which do people little or no good and which offer no solution. Issues like blind
aggression, suicide, borderline, schizofrenia,
etc., are subjects that they do not have conclusive answers to yet,
let alone that they know how to spot or stop them in advance! And nevertheless
we have to find those answers. Then psychological problems threaten to become
the number one disease and that does not only go
for the Netherlands. So we urgently need insight and solutions.
